Do you often struggle with bloating? Here are some recommendations I give to my clients with sensitive tummies.
AVOID INFLAMMATORY FOODS
These are foods that trigger an immune response leading to inflammation, bloating and a host of other associated problems. Common culprits include highly processed and high sugar foods, and products containing gluten, dairy and soy.⠀⠀
CHEW YOUR FOOD
Sounds obvious but if you’re someone who tends to eat “on the go” or in a hurry, then you likely aren’t chewing your food properly. Chewing triggers the whole digestive process and breaks the food down into smaller, more easily digested particles. It also produces saliva which contains digestive enzymes that help to break down the foods that you eat and enhance nutrient absorption.
SUPPLEMENT WITH DIGESTIVE ENZYMES
Sometimes our bodies don’t produce enough of the right digestive enzymes to adequately support digestion. In my experience with both myself and clients, taking a high-strength digestive enzyme supplement with main meals can result in almost immediate relief.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
The acidic nature of ACV provides a natural digestive aid to help your body break down various food components. It’s pretty nasty on its own so it’s best to dilute 1tbs ACV in cold water and consume before main meals.
SUPPLEMENT WITH A QUALITY GREENS FORMULA
My personal favourite is Switch Nutrition Vitality Switch. As well as containing a host of green goodies, like Japanese matcha, spirulina, broccoli sprouts and kale powder, this blend includes digestive enzymes, probiotics, L-Glutamine and Wild Caught Sustainable Marine Collagen to support a healthy gut microbiome. It’s also gluten free, dairy free, soy free, naturally flavoured and sweetened, and 1 scoop is equal to 8 servings of fruit & veg. Take 1-3 serves daily with meals. The chocolate is my fav hands DOWN!
